Pserimos & the lost lamb

Left geruseluk & had a lazy sail. it was crew choice day & i wanted the peace of an anchorage so off to vathi, a cove on the tiny greek island of Pserimos only 2 hrs away which was so lovely we stayed a few days. The clearest blue water and sandy bottom so excellent anchorage & swimming. Diving off the boat is still a challenge so i rowed in and had the little cove to myself. All day the goats and sheep roam the shores with bells around their necks and the constant tolling becomes like a song. Walked up & over to see what was on the other side and found the sleepy port village and chatted with a cafe owner Nick who grew up in Darwin. These guys work such long hrs during the season to make up for down time but no one is hre yet. Pserimos has a permanent population 25.Everywhere there are signs saying how many euros have been put into marina infrastructure but little evidence of work done cos all in some bureaucrats pocket. Back to the cove a lamb was on its own but we assumed it would mix it with the others. Next morning i went in for a swim and it was on the beach crying and the other sheep just ignored it so back to the boat to get Steven to help and by then it was a sad little lump exhausted on the rocks. After a bit of a goose chase it let Steven pick it up - probably an affinity with his beard - and we hiked all the way back to the village and put in a paddock, the herder probably wondered where it came from but i just couldn't sail away with its sad wailing. Ironically i am now perched on a rock outside a cafe in the itty village of vathis on the neighbouring island of kalymnos listening to the crying of goat kids being caught - i think i ate one for dinner last night. Nick suggested we come here & try cafe of another darwin born local Michael who gave me his wifi password. Absolutely delightful family so any yachties going this direction, great places to visit. Being a chatterbox pays off!  It appears half the Kalymnos greeks have family in darwin. Only 3 yachts here, tiny fishing port & last night was like sleeping in a washing machine.  Berthing was a test as narrow cove with sheer cliff surrounds, rocks making it too shallow for us to stern berth so i  to helm in while the heavy anchor was dropped from the stern -skip then tells me he has never berthed like that -it was certainly a test to my nerve - getting out may be a test if the wind picks up. The pics are pserimos, the old guy is washing octopus in the bucket, pic 4 is vathi on Kalymnos. A local just came by with fresh bread which smells beautiful & i had the best fresh local goat cheese last night but our food supplies are low & no market here so we will either bus with school kids or motor around to port of kalymnos today. Not sure where to next, our turkish neighbours have suggested a few coast towns so i think it will be a constant zig zag btn greece & turkey as all so close.
